Does Google see automatically generated content as a bad thing?

What does Google have to say about the use of automatically generated content?

the use of automatically generated content imageAre you thinking of using automatically generated content for your website and wondering what Google might actually think about it? SEO involves a lot of work and many are often tempted to ease off on the workload by automating a thing or two but is that really a good idea though?

Use of automatically generated content – not necessarily a bad thing for Google

Now as Matt Cutts – Google’s webmaster explains in the video shown above, there is no such thing as non – copyrighted content (at least in the United States). Hence if your search engine optimisation strategy involves “automatically” copying and publishing duplicate content from various sources on the web then just forget it. That would be just asking for trouble from Google’s web spam team.

There’s inherently wrong with automation even in terms of generating content so long as it is done in moderation. For one thing, a lot of web marketers “spin” their content using automated programs and carefully edit them for readability which is a lot quicker than starting from scratch without necessarily sacrificing quality. Then again there are those who simply take things too far and sacrifice quality – that’s where a lot of people often end up shooting themselves in the foot and getting their websites penalized.
