How will Google treat new TLDs?

Google’s take on new top level domains

Wondering about what Google actually thinks about new TLDs (top level domains) that a lot of webmasters are starting to adopt such as www.businessname.exampleTLD? How does it affect page rank and search results?

Do check out the video featured above for what Google has to say about the matter…

New TLDs – not a problem for Google

As explained by Matt Cutts in the video – Google’s webmaster, new TLDs are not an issue for Google. As long as webmasters are offering something of value to users and their content is the best for a particular set of search queries, webmasters can expect that Google will find and serve those webpages to users just like they do with any other domain.

Having said that, webmasters need to consider the merits of using new custom TLDs. Most users find domains like .com and .org reputable and are wary about trusting new ones and that can have a significant impact on SEO results.

What are your own thoughts about using new TLD’s and Google’s treatment of it?
