If a site linking to mine gets caught selling links, what happens to my site?

 The trouble with paid links

As you may already know links are a significant aspect of running a successful SEO campaign. Google treats it as a “vote of confidence” which is a significant factor for determining search engine rankings. The more links you have from quality and reputable websites, the better you can expect your search engine rankings to be.

Considering how much significance there is in a back link or link building in general, its not surprising that some people have attempted to capitalize on this by offering paid links. Unfortunately these things are shunned upon by Google as a means of manipulating search engine results.

Rather than invest in poor and black hat link building strategies, it would be best for businesses to build a natural presence in organic search results and naturally reap its benefits which includes forging authentic relations with reputable and relevant sources online and actually offer something of value to the online community.

Google constantly strives to provide better and more relevant search results for its users and its easy to see how the idea of a paid link translates to an attempt to manipulate search engine rankings which is why search engines forbids such a practice. Websites found guilt of selling a paid link can face harsh penalties  which often results to a complete ban of the website.

What happens if Google discovers that your website has paid links pointing to it?

Having mentioned Google’s stand on paid links, a lot of people are concerned about what would actually happen if search engine algorithms find any paid back link pointing to their website. Will they be penalized or demoted as well? Fortunately as explained in the video above, this is certainly not the case and worst case scenario is that you will simply lose any value that those links had towards your website’s search engine rankings.
