Is HTML validation necessary for ranking?

Do you need a perfect HTML code validation for good rankings?

Google has once stated that HTML code validation is not at all an important factor in SEO or website rankings. Now the statement has caused a great deal of confusion among a lot of people in the search engine optimisation business. Doesn’t Google care if they end up sending users to “broken” websites?

Do check out the webmaster video featured above for Google’s official response to the said query and read on for a more detailed discussion on the matter.

Why HTML validation is not important for ranking?

As discussed in the video above, Google stands firm on its response that non-validating HTML codes are not an important factor in SEO and website rankings.  It’s all due to the fact that web browsers in widespread use now days such as Firefox, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome are so advanced that they can render a website correctly despite any HTML coding errors which makes it a non-issue.

To further illustrate the point that Google is trying to make, think of HTML codes as a sentence. Now that sentence may be grammatically incorrect but chances are, you will still comprehend what it means. It’s practically the same thing with HTML coding errors and if the search engine is to suddenly turn into a
“grammar Nazi” a lot of perfectly good websites are inadvertently going to get trashed and taken off the indexing process for no good reason.

Simply put, if a webpage renders correctly and can be understood by users perfectly then Google will continue to rank it and serve that webpage to users regardless of whether its HTML code validates or not.

So what do you think? Would you agree that HTML code validation is a non-issue when it comes to rankings?
