Is posting blog updates to Twitter considered a doorway?

Posting blog updates on Twitter

Are you wondering if it is perfectly okay for webmasters to make use of Twitter like an RSS service wherein tweets are sent out each time a post is published? Does Google think of it as a “doorway” strategy or does it violate any of the search engine’s policies for that matter? Is it considered a black hat SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and social media strategy?

Well do check out the video featured above to see what the search engine has to say about the matter.

Broadcasting blog updates via twitter – not a “doorway” strategy

As mentioned by webmaster Matt Cutts in the Google webmaster help video featured above, promoting post updates via Twitter is not considered a “doorway” strategy nor does it violate any of the search engine’s policies.

Doorways differ in that these are spammy and low quality webpages that target specific keywords and whose sole purpose is to drive its visitors to a monetization page. RSS feeds do nothing of that sort and as a matter of fact, the webmaster mentioned that he is using a similar system wherein a brief announcement is tweeted every time he publishes a new post on his blog.

Of course although it is indeed perfectly okay to post blog updates on Twitter taking it too far can prove quite annoying for users. Let’s say that you end up tweeting updates every few minutes that direct users to low quality and automatically generated spun content that offers nothing of interest – don’t be surprised if most of your audience starts to “unfollow” you!
