Google provides various options for webmasters who wish to verify their website via the webmaster tool. Such options include:

  • Domain name provider – recommended for webmasters who have a lot of sites to verify. Simply select your domain name provider on the drop-down list and the system will automatically verify all related domain names owned. It may not work for all webmasters and the process often requires that you get your domain names registered and hosted by the same company for it to work. Still, it’s the easiest verification method available
  • HTML file upload – this method requires a bit of technical knowledge to pull off as it involves uploading an HTML file on your site’s root directory. This can be accomplished using an FTP program often provided by web hosts like such as Hostgator.
  • HTML meta tag – recommended only for webmasters familiar with HTML coding for their website
  • Google analytics– webmasters that already use Google analytics on their website will an option to verify their website through the analytics tool

Webmaster tools will notify you if you’ve successfully completed verification using any of the four methods mentioned above. Newly verified websites may not show any data for awhile so webmasters can check back after a few days for the information they need.
